McKINNEY BOYD BAND DIRECTORS

Joe Nunez, a University of Houston Moores School of Music graduate, has been the
director of bands for McKinney Boyd High School since it opened in 2006. Mr. Nunez
previously taught in the Birdville, Cypress-Fairbanks, and Spring Independent School
Districts. Bands under his direction have been consistent UIL sweepstakes award winners
and have earned numerous Best in Class honors at band festivals throughout the United
State. Marching bands under his direction and with whom he has worked have been
consistent finalists at various marching band contest, including the Texas State Marching
Contest, the Bands of America Regional Competition, and the Bands of America National
Competition. Mr. Nunez is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas
Bandmasters Association, the National Bandmasters Association, and is a past president
of the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Music Fraternity of America.
Stephen Lisko is excited to join the McKinney Boyd Bronco Band staff as the associate
director! He attended the University of Houston Moores School of Music, where he
graduated magna cum laude. Mr. Lisko previously taught at J.J. Pearce High School in
Richardson, Texas as an assistant band director. His bands at Pearce won numerous
acknowledgments in past years, including Sweepstakes at U.I.L. Contest and a “Gold
Medal” award at the New York Wind Band Festival. While at the Moores School of Music,
Mr. Lisko studied saxophone with Dr. Karen Wylie and performed in the Wind Ensemble
directed by former Pearce High School band director Tom Bennett. He was also in the
Spirit of Houston Cougar Marching Band under the direction of David Bertman. Mr. Lisko
is married to Mrs. Tiffany Lisko, who teaches band at Dowell Middle School. His
professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas
Bandmasters Association, and Kappa Kappa Psi national honorary fraternity for college
bandmembers.
Jason Myers is a graduate of the University of North Texas College of Music and has been
teaching in McKinney ISD since 2008 serving as an assistant band director and head
color guard instructor at McKinney Boyd High School. His ensembles have achieved
numerous awards in both concert and marching band competitions earning division 1
ratings in multiple music festivals and UIL Concert and Sight-Reading contests. Many of
his color guards have multiple honors in marching band that include outstanding color
guard and general effect awards in Bands of America regional contests and many local
and state competitions. Mr. Myers winter guards have won numerous honors with many of
his guards awarded state medals in both the NTCA and TCGC color guard circuits. His
guards have also finished in the top three in local winter guard contests 30+ times and
have been Winter Guard International Regional Championship finalists. Mr. Myers has
also taught color guard in DCI as the Color Guard Caption Head for the Revolution Drum
and Bugle Corps, and in 2006 his guard captured the silver medal in the DCI World
Championships. His professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators
Association and Texas Bandmasters Association.
Derek Stoughton has been an Assistant Band Director and Percussion Director at
McKinney Boyd High School since 2009. Prior to his appointment in McKinney ISD, Mr.
Stoughton taught in the public schools of Pflugerville ISD. He is a graduate of the
University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a Bachelor of Music Studies degree. While
at the University of Texas, he studied Percussion with Dr. Thomas Burritt and Professor
Tony Edwards. Mr. Stoughton is active in the Texas Music Educators Association, the
Texas Bandmasters Association, and the National Association for Music Education. He
also holds professional memberships in Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and Kappa Kappa Psi. Mr.
Stoughton proudly endorses innovative Percussion and performs exclusively using their
sticks and mallets.
