MBHS Band Places 40 Students In The All-Region Band
Please help us congratulate all of the band students who advanced to the Phase II
round of the All-Region Band Auditions.  McKinney Boyd had 29 students selected to
the 5A All-Region Band and three additional students promoted to the 9th Grade All-
Region Band for a total of 40 students making All-Region!  This is nearly double the
number of students selected from 2008’s 5A All-Region total of 21.

In addition McKinney Boyd had 3 students selected for the All-Region Orchestra and
8 students earn All-Area Honors.  Students selected for All-Area will compete for All-
State Honors on January 9th.

This tremendous achievement and significant improvement in only our second year
in 5A competition would not have been possible without the individual commitment
to excellence put forth by each student and the commitment to excellence in
instruction put forth by our private lesson staff who worked with our students
individually and in master classes.

Below is the roster of students earning All-Region and All-Area Honors.

The All-Region Concerts will be held on Friday, January 29th at McKinney North High
School.

The All-State Concerts will be held in San Antonio, on Saturday, February 13th.
Silent Auction / Rafle Fundraiser Is Almost Here!
Our final fundraiser for 2010 is quickly approaching.  Feb. 5th, 2010 will be a
combined concert with 8th graders from the 4 middle schools and our own Boyd
Bands.  Along with this event, a Silent Auction/Raffle will be taking place.  We need all
families to come up with at least one donation with a value of at least $25.00 for this
event.  I am not asking you to purchase anything, instead go to a business that you
frequent and ask for a donation.  Example might be a nail salon, your hair dresser,
dry cleaners, car wash, day spa to name a few.  Places that you visit often are more
apt to donate because you are their patron.   In addition to your donation, your student
is also putting together baskets from their section to be sold at the auction.  Please
ask your student to communicate with you on what they are required to bring to class.

Silent Auction Donation Form

Deadline for all donations is Feb. 1st, but to get a companies donation listing on our
website, deadline is Jan. 25th.  Send all items to the band room.
Congratulations to all of our students who competed at Saturdays
All-Area Band auditions. McKinney Boyd had 4 students selected
for All-State Band Honors.

Color Guard Opens The Season With 1st Place Win!
The ladies of the McKinney Boyd Color Guard were
awarded the 1st place trophy in  Scholastic AAA class
this past Saturday at the Keller Winter Guard Contest.
This year the guard will compete for the first time in the
scholastic AAA division. This is one division higher
than last year. Last year the guard finished 2nd place
in the Regional A division and was awarded the silver
medal at the state competition. This year the guard is
already off to a great start winning 1st place in their
new division and dominating the competition. The
ladies of the guard continue their season next week
as they travel to Haltom City to compete in the
Richland Winter Guard Contest at Thomas Coliseum!
Congratulations ladies on such a wonderful
accomplishment! We are all so very proud of you!
Color Guard Takes Home 1st Place Again!
On January 31, 2010 the ladies of the McKinney Boyd
Color Guard made history by placing 1st in their
second consecutive contest this year at the Richland
Winter Guard contest in Haltom City, TX. This is the
first time in the color guards short history that our team
has won back to back competitions. The ladies put on
a spectacular performance and in a much more
difficult competition, the guard blew away the
competition and brought home their second 1st place
trophy of the year! The guard also accomplished even
more than a first place finish. The competition judges
in an overwhelming majority awarded the McKinney
Boyd guard with a promotion to the Scholastic AA
class. This is a huge accomplishment for the
McKinney Boyd guard. In just one year the guard has moved through the ranks of the
circuit and has been promoted through 5 classes! Now the guard will compete
amongst the very best guards in the DFW area and in the state of Texas! The Boyd
guard continues their historic season on February 26, 2010 at the Centennial Winter
Guard Contest! Congratulations ladies! We are so proud of you!

Color Guard Takes 3rd Place in New Class

Friday night at the Frisco Centennial Winter Guard
Competition. This was the very first contest the guard
has competed in the Scholastic AA class. The guard
did exceptionally well and finished 3rd closely behind
Summit and Wakeland High Schools. The guard will
